Spiralex® corrugated heat exchangers for slaughter waste
Slaughter wastes are a potential reservoir of bacterial, viral and parasitic pathogens that can infect animals and humans. A quick, cost-effective and safe disposal method is therefore essential to reduce the risk of disease after slaughtering animals.
There are various methods for the disposal of such wastes, including composting, anaerobic digestion (AD), alkaline hydrolysis (AH), rendering and incineration. However, the high fat and protein content of slaughterhouse waste means that such waste materials form an excellent substrate for AD processes, resulting in both waste products and the recycling of nutrients (soil modification with sludge) and methane production. There is only concern about whether AD and composting processes can inactivate pathogens.
Another solution is to process the slaughter waste directly into semi-finished products, so that the slaughter waste yields a little and does not pose a risk of diseases and bacterial growth.
Through this research we, Spiralex BV, have become involved. The sterilization of the slaughter waste ensures safety and can be further processed in animal food. In this way the slaughter waste will apply something!
